Justus-Liebig University Giessen
Liebig University in Giessen combines up-to-date research and
teaching with the tradition of an almost 400 years old
university. Founded in 1607 as a Hessian-Lutheran regional
university, JLU Giessen today bears the name of its most
renowned scientist, Justus Liebig, the founder of modern
agricultural chemistry, who was appointed professor at
Giessen in 1824 where he taught there until 1852. With
more than 21,000 students, Liebig University is a middle-sized
university in Germany today. The courses of study offered
at the university are comprehensive and multi-faceted.
Among them are human and veterinary medicine, agricultural and
nutritional sciences as well as home economics – a constellation
unique in Germany. A wide spectrum of disciplines can be
found at Justus-Liebig-University Giessen, comprising classical
philology, law, economics, social and educational sciences,
modern languages and literature, linguistics and cultural
studies.

How to reach Giessen?
The City of Giessen is located 60 km (40 miles) north of Frankfurt
am Main and can easily be reached by train from Frankfurt´s
International Airport (60 minutes) or Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof
(main train station)
From Frankfurt International Airport and by train
From Frankfurt Airport take the S-Bahn No. 8 to Frankfurt central
station (Hauptbahnhof). Trains to Giessen leave every
half hour. A ticket from a vending machine of the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund
(RMV) will be valid for the whole journey and for the
bus service in Giessen as well. Get off at Giessen central
railway station. In front of the railway station you will
find the central bus station. Take bus No. 2 and get off
at Berliner Platz for the bus stop closest to the main
university building.

From the North: Motorway A7 / A5 (Hamburg - Basel) to "Reiskirchener

From the South: Motorway A5 to "Gambacher Kreuz",
A45 (direction "Dortmund") to "Giessener Südkreuz",
A485 (direction "Giessen") to "Giessen Schiffenberger
Tal".
